Jonah has grown so much already! From his 1 week old pic in which he can't even fit his tiny newborn clothes, to this one month pic where his long skinny feet don't even fit his tiny baby socks anymore, he's exploding with changes!
He can hold his head up for a good amount of time during tummy time or when you hold him upright, but he still doesn't like it much! It's SO much fun to stick your tongue out and open and close your mouth at him and watch him mimic us! It makes me laugh and smile every time! He is also a big fan of bath time, but only when he's actually IN the water... stripping down and drying off are NOT on the list of Jonah's faves! But in the bath he just looks up at you and makes sweet little baby happy noises :) So Sweet.
After bath photo shoot in the sweet hooded towel Caitlin made :)

The main development this month has been going from on demand feeding and well EVERYTHING, to trying to get little bit on a schedule of sorts. Incase you didn't know, infant sleep is one of the great mysteries of the modern world! Researched by many and still intensely debated, you could devote your life to reading books, blogs, and articles and still be no better off on how to get these little humans to do something they do so much of naturally! Go figure right! lol. So JJ and I have developed a mashed up system of our own, utilizing all of mommy's Googled knowledge to get a somewhat regular pattern. At first we went with on demand, which is just watching your baby and trying to figure out why he might be crying at any one moment and desperately trying to appease his requests. Problem is babies can't talk. And they have delayed responses to whatever you offer, except to nurse. So, you end up nursing, for everything. Hunger - great... comfort, sleep, just plain fussy... well all paths shouldn't lead to the same place!
So we tried to do the much heralded and recomended Babywise, even though the thought of hyper scheduling and crying it out freaked me out. After one day of tears, just as many from me as from Jonah, I realized what we were doing wasn't going to work. Thankfully, with help from our good friends Naomi and Ellen, and a few thoughtful conversations with my sweet husband, and lots of prayers, I was able to see that following the book like a formula would never work. I have to find a way to feel more of that mother's intuition, and just use the methods as lose guides. Since officially abandoning the timeeverythingyourbabydoes app on my phone for a more holistic approach, we have settled into a routine we both are comfortable with, without heartwrenching crying sessions. I follow the suggested pattern of Babywise, always keeping Jonah awake for a full feeding (Harder than it sounds!), then giving him playtime, but instead of timeing it out, I just watch him a la demand style until he really seems sleepy. Then it's down for a nap baby whisperer style with some rocking, singing, and into his bassinet still awake, but with my hands on him to comfort him till he falls asleep. If he wakes up early he might cry for a few minutes, and almost always falls back asleep if it hasn't been a long enough nap for him. And as figured out as it seems by that last little paragraph... ha, we also have nights of complete disaster in which Jake and I finally have to resort to the age old standby of putting the little boogin in the carseat for a midnight car ride touring Yellow Springs! lol. Oh, and don't even get me started on the drama of nipple confusion! ha!
While I've been busy tryign to sort out little Jonah man, Jake has been super busy too! He's been back to work since the week after Jonah was born, and spends almost every evening working on the Byron house. An update on the house is next on the blog agenda, and it's going to be a long one, but until then, here is an incredibly adorable photo dump of my sweet little man :)
Had an amazing time with my dad when he stayed 2 weeks with us! Such a sweet grandpa!
Dad dancing with Joanh! SO ADORABLE! Little JJ seems to calm right down when you sing and dance with him! lol
The premie outfits Joanh's Nanny Amanda Got him cause he was too small for the newborn outfits! I can't believe it but he grew out of these in a week!
