There has been SO much that has happened with the house since the last updates! Even though we've been pretty busy with sweet baby JJ, Jake has been spending his nights and weekends working his tail off at the house. And just as you might expect with an old hose remodel, things are already getting delayed and becoming more complicated than expected.
Jake and his dad are updating the electric so that we can expand without worry and Jake can shut off the electric to the house whenever he wants. This, according to Jake, was going to be the easiest part of the project, and be done in a week tops! Sounded great to me, and he got right on digging the trenches and running the conduit needed. The yard looks like those giant worm things from "Tremors" have invaded, but Jake did good work, and we even passed our inspection on the first time!
Then we called the electric company... and they are stupid. Instead of just letting Jake set up a box on the pole bringing the electricity in, he has to follow exact specifications to build a stand for the box out of crazy galvanized pipe that costs an arm and a leg and put it 10 feet away from the main pole. Seriously?? So, that alone has pushed everything back a week, but at least we know what to do know and have the ball rolling.
The other big development is the addition of COWS! We are officially a little farm with 6 momma cows and 6 little calves :) So fun! It's great for tax purposes, gives the farm another place to pasture some livestock, and to me, it they are beautiful and will be so much fun for Jonah to grow up around. I can't wait for 4-H projects and teaching him the value of hard work with REAL farm chores!
The inside is moving along as well, but right now it seems like we are going backwards instead of forwards, but that's the nature of demolition! Jake and my dad pulled out all the old trim and doors, and dad had 1-800-JUNK come out to finally haul off the last of the junk (including the white trash pile with the couch and TVs! Yay!) Dad was also super sweet and arranged for the plaster to be ripped out. That saves Jake a HUGE amount of hard, miserable labor and a pain-in-the-butt to get rid of trash. So in preparation for the plaster demo, Jake has cleared the house of everything he can rip off, and the place looks so much more open already!
It looks pretty rugged and far from move in ready, but I'm confident it will be AMAZING soon enough, and at least livable by winter... *fingers crossed! lol
